Thomas J. Daly Attorney at Law, L.L.C.
Connecticut Secretary of the State
The Secretary of the State of Connecticut has an excellent web site. Instead of waiting on hold for corporate information you can now search directly at this web site and find out information such as the status of the corporation and the name and address of the agent for service of process. The "Blue Book" is also available on line. The site also has many downloadable forms.

Other web sites of interest to the Connecticut practitioner would be the banking department's web site. This site does not contain a tremendous amount of information. But if you represent any landlords or tenants, it does post the interest rates that landlords must pay on security deposits. The Department of Revenue Services has a fair site with many forms and other information.  It, however, is not the most current  site.

For example,  it does not have the most current exemption brackets for classes of individuals subject to the succession tax.

Finally, the Department of Consumer Protection has a fair site. It is not very current. For example, a recent check revealed no information concerning the licensing of home improvement contractors which was scheduled to go into effect on July 1, 2000.

State of Connecticut Home Page
The State of Connecticut has a home page which contains a lot of helpful information but, in addition, it contains a comprehensive listing of all the individual web sites of the executive, judicial and legislative branches of government. For that reason it is a terrific starting and reference point for attorneys.

Connecticut Judicial Branch
If you have not checked in yet you should acquaint yourself with the judicial department's web site.   There is a lot of information there including downloadable forms, names and addresses of all judges, addresses for all courts, and, you can look up the status of your case either by doing a name search or by typing in the case docket number. I understand that the housing court will be added to the judicial branch's computers and be available online sometime this year.

Connecticut Workers' Compensation Commission
The Workers' Compensation Commission's web site. It too is a well done site complete with oodles of information including, downloadable forms that you can fill out online and print to your local printer ready to be signed and mailed. (They should develop the additional ability to electronically file the forms right from the website.)
